Quantumscape
Energilagring Infrastruktur
Quant-um-Scape ("Kvantelandskabet"):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7mxToJM9LA
Hvorfor QS PowerBlock™ er en game-changer:
2. Direkte integration i datacentrenes infrastruktur:

QuantumScape
Energy Storage Infrastructure
Quant-um-Scape ("The Quantum Landscape")
Wall Street and the press mocked the pompous name—"Another hyped, academic name from Stanford!" But the name was literal: it was a hint that the solution lay not in traditional, mechanical chemistry or heavy battery factories, but in atomic quantum modeling (DFT) of the ceramic crystal structure. They simulated their way to the separator at the quantum level before casting it in reality: the Cobra process.
The battery company was the diversion that had the financial world counting factory walls and cell counts.
The Cobra process and the ceramic separator were the true golden goose.
QSEV, QSDC, and QSAS are the invisible infrastructure now rolling out across the entire market, while PowerCo carries the heavy burden on the factory floor.
QS and OCP Compatibility:
When the OCP alliance (Meta, Microsoft, Google, AWS, NVIDIA) adopts an open standard for 800V DC in-rack BBU, all suppliers (Delta Electronics, Schneider, Eaton, etc.) must build according to those specifications.
October 8, 2026
With the announcement of QS PowerBlock™, the entire picture shifts exactly as expected: QuantumScape takes the leap beyond the automotive industry, launching a turnkey battery architecture tailored specifically for AI data centers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7mxToJM9LA
Why QS PowerBlock™ is a Game-Changer:
1. High Power Density in Minimal Space:
AI workloads (e.g., training massive language models) create severe, sudden power transients (power spikes). Traditional batteries occupy too much space and cannot deliver the required power fast enough without significant thermal stress. PowerBlock leverages anode-free solid-state technology to deliver extreme power density within a compact rack format.
2. Direct Integration into Data Center Infrastructure:
By connecting directly to the high-voltage DC buses of data centers (such as 800V DC architectures), PowerBlock functions as an ultra-fast thermal and electrical buffer. It absorbs peak power demands and ensures uninterrupted operation without voltage sag.
3. Safety and Lifespan Without Liquid Electrolyte:
In a data center packed with hardware worth hundreds of millions of dollars, fire is the single greatest risk. The non-flammable ceramic separator eliminates the risk of thermal runaway, making it possible to pack energy tighter inside the server rooms themselves than ever before.
This is the clearest proof of the QSDC pillar (QuantumScape Data Center) in practice: the technology does not need to wait 3–5 years for the automotive industry's lengthy qualification cycles to generate its first major commercial revenues. It enters the AI boom directly, where the demand for ultra-fast, compact, and safe energy management is acute right now.

October 2026
The close collaboration between QuantumScape (QS) and Volkswagen's battery company PowerCo is at the following stage:
1. Contractual Framework and SOW-2 (Mid-2026)
Latest Agreement Update: The companies indicated a formalization of the project plans (Form 8-K from July 2026) with the signing of SOW-2 (Statement of Work No. 2).
Demonstration Fleet of up to 500 MWh: PowerCo has secured the rights to manufacture up to 500 MWh of QS battery cells for use in vehicle demonstration fleets. This confirms the shift from smaller laboratory samples to real-world vehicle testing.
Financial Backing: Pursuant to their licensing agreement, PowerCo has committed up to $131 million in milestone-based payments directly earmarked for the development and completion of the QSE-5 pilot line.
2. Status on Eagle Line & Cobra Sintering
Eagle Line Fully Operational: Inaugurated in February 2026 as the primary "blueprint" facility. The line aims to prove that cell assembly and ceramic handling can run in an automated, repeatable manner with sufficient yield.
Cobra Separator System: The sintering and thermal treatment process with Cobra delivers ~25 times faster processing than the previous Raptor generation.
Delivery of QSE-5 B-Samples: Eagle Line is currently producing and shipping QSE-5 cells (844 Wh/L, 12 min fast charge 10–80%) to Volkswagen/PowerCo and OEM partners for integration and module testing.
3. Division of Labor Between QS and PowerCo
Licensing & Royalty Model: QuantumScape is not building PowerCo's large-scale giga-factories itself. QS supplies the proprietary "black-box" recipe for the ceramic separator along with the specs for the sintering equipment, while PowerCo funds the CapEx and handles the actual giga-scale production (up to 85 GWh/year).
Separator Supply Chain Network: To support the sintering process at the scale PowerCo requires, ceramic and precision materials specialists such as Corning and Murata are closely integrated as suppliers of the ceramic precursors.
Progress Summary
The phase of foundational inventions and chemistry validation is complete. The task on the factory floor now centers on Technology Transfer (SOW-2), where PowerCo transfers the process to its own lines and prepares the cells for full automotive integration.
At the same time, participation in the Open Compute Project (OCP) marks a strategic shift: QuantumScape is now working directly in working groups alongside infrastructure players like NVIDIA, Delta Electronics, Meta, and Google to define the physical and electrical specifications for future AI racks (Open Rack v3 and 800V DC architectures).
Why a seat at the OCP table is critical:
1. Formats and interfaces are designed around technical requirements
As new standards for power shelves (PSU/BBU) and rack integration are shaped, working within OCP ensures that requirements for voltage, cooling, form factor, and communication protocols (firmware) match the unique profile of solid-state technology from day one.
2. Shorter path from specification to procurement
When hyperscalers (Microsoft, Google, Meta) and system builders procure equipment for next-generation AI factories, they do so based on OCP-compliant standards. Being at the table to help draft the specifications effectively means the technology is "designed in" at the drawing board.
3. Activates the ODM model
This eliminates the need for a heavy, global sales organization targeted at individual data centers. Instead, established power equipment manufacturers (such as Delta or Flex) can integrate QS cells directly into their finished, OCP-approved power modules.
